Beit Iksa… My village

Just 5 miles away from the heart of Jerusalem, my besieged village has been converted to a concentration camp, where villagers are entrapped with only one access to the outside world, through an international-border-like checkpoint. The original road which connected Beit Iksa to Jerusalem through Beit Hanina has been permanently blocked, No one is allowed to enter except people from the village.
There is about 1200 people living in Beit Iksa, on an ever shrinking land due to military confiscation, but the vast majority (estimated 10000) are still living in exile, prevented from returning home by the Jewish-Zionist occupation.
The village was attacked in 1948, forcing the villagers out into refugee camps, leaving the old village centre completely destroyed, while the looting and burning the rest.
The villagers were able to return back to their half destroyed village after cease fire…

While the American Empire – and much of the policies being pursued – did not begin under President Obama, the focus of “Empire Under Obama” is to bring awareness about the nature of empire to those who may have – or continue – to support Barack Obama and who may believe in the empty promises of “hope” and “change.” Empire is institutional, not individual. My focus on the imperial structure during the Obama administration is not to suggest that it does not predate Obama, but rather, that Obama represents ‘continuity’ in imperialism, not “change.” This part examines the concept of ‘counterinsurgency’ as a war against the populations of Iraq, Afghanistan and spreading into Pakistan.

[Sunday Morning November 3, 2013] Dozens of Israeli soldiers invaded various districts in the occupied West Bank, broke into homes, kidnapped Palestinians, and installed several roadblocks before stopping and interrogating dozens of residents.

Local sources have reported that several Israeli military vehicles invaded the eastern area of Nablus city, and were deployed around Balata and Askar refugee camps, east of the city, and the Amman Street.
The sources added that the invasion did not lead to clashes with local residents despite provocations from the military.
Furthermore, soldiers kidnapped one Palestinian identified as Saleh Younis Saleh, 19 years of age, at the Bissan roadblock, near the West Bank city of Jericho.
Saleh is from Yatta town, south of the southern West Bank city of Hebron. He was taken to the Huwwara military camp…
